AI Pioneer Geoffrey Hinton Feels AI Is A Threat To Humanity And Says Good AI Wont Defeat Bad AI

One of the top minds in the world of AI, Geoffrey Hinton has been expressing major concerns about the revolutionary technology for a while now.

And if you think his mind has changed anytime soon about the power of AI and what good it can do for us all, well, that’s not the case for now.

Hinton recently called out officials for not doing enough in terms of providing protection and allowing the threat to rise to new levels where controlling the matter might be difficult. We saw him quit his job at tech giant Google this past year so he could free more time and focus on the field that he was at the center of creating.

Today, he feels tools like ChatGPT and even Bing Search are further developing at an alarming pace and since they’re all going unchecked for so long, it’s a huge threat to the human race.

Then we’ve got more competitors popping up in the industry as we speak. From Bard and others, the playing field is full of all kinds of products. And this sort of development is very dangerous for obvious reasons.

Search engine giant Google explains that it’s making Bard better and more comprehensive so that it turns into a product that people would adore for obvious reasons. Moreover, we even saw at recent tech conferences where the topic is the center of a lot of people’s attention with concerns coming from all directions.

No one wants the human race to become extinct or for AI to take over the world. So many firms are relying on AI to get the job done at a faster pace than before. And what might appear as a solution for some right now might soon sound an alarm for others in the near future when their own work is taken over by AI.

Hinton further elaborated upon how he felt about good AI replacing bad AI as the adoption of this technology could prove to arise at a high cost.

It’s interesting how the threat to humanity exists and now Hinton says the product is just as great as the individuals who produced it and that in the end, bad technology would win. He feels a point has come where the technology might soon be unstoppable and we’ll be battling against robots.

But Hinton did explain more about how he did agree that language models were beneficial and their use was helping us all in terms of greater productivity. But in his opinion, the ruling class would exploit such means and widen the gap and make the rich society richer while the poor keep getting poorer.

No one wants to see AI get smarter than the human mind and if that does happen, what’s the assurance that humans would be in control anymore?

Clearly, he’s signaling red alarm bells and hopes it’s not just him that sees the dangers in this but others too because it’s a matter that deserves more attention in the form of regulation.

Twitter Wont Be Accessible Without An Account As The App Makes Log Ins Mandatory For All

Leading microblogging website Twitter is making sure people are gaining access to the app through authentic means.

The platform is only providing access to users on the web and through their smartphones if they have an account. So logins are now mandatory if you wish to use the app, it was confirmed today.

Those who happen to be using the app now and aren’t logged in would be getting an alert that requests them to Sign In. So you can either do that if you have an existing account or sign up if you’re new.

And those who choose to dismiss this alert that pops up across their screen, well, you’ll surely be sent back to the app’s homepage and then asked again to make an account to use the platform further.

The company provides both iOS and Android users to make accounts through phones or simply go on the web and sign in. So to put things simply, there’s no running away from this ordeal anymore.

What we are aware of right now is that the platform is yet to put out an official statement regarding this or even regarding the firm’s own online blog as to why it’s making such a change all of a sudden.

For now, Twitter is yet to share the reason with other tech media outlets who happen to be asking for an answer regarding the change too. But we know it’s going to come out soon. As of this moment in time, all you’ll get in return is an emoji that comprises poop.

A few months back, we saw the organization disable the field for search queries that had to do with unregistered users. It only showed up a few suggestions for tweets whenever someone arrived on the homepage. Similarly, we saw the platform put out a cap limit for free APIs that arose in the month of February.

People were shocked to learn how the app was requesting $100 each month if they wished to read or even add a post as the collection was huge. For now, there is no proper explanation as to what is taking place for such moves and it hoped to shut the platform further as a lot of individuals feel it could be a major effort to block people from attaining access to tweets online.

As one can imagine, Twitter users are not happy with this change and it’s causing a huge trigger for outcry for a lot of others.

The change that was published today has people upset because no one likes being bound to having an account or logging in or being part of the whole redirecting loop too. They want to use the app like they’ve been doing for years but Twitter says that’s not going to be happy anymore.

Errors are already popping up for those using the app who don’t have accounts as their experience is disabled temporarily while being redirected to new pages that want them to sign up or sign in.

Twitter Unleashes the Power of Sharing: Introducing Downloadable Videos

Social media giant Twitter has long been a platform that allows users to share their ideas, pictures, and videos with the world. While it has been attainable to retweet or like a tweet, the ability to download videos straight from the social network has been notably missing. However, Twitter has finally attended to the demands of its consumers and is familiarizing a download video option, bringing a new level of comfort and accessibility to its extensive consumer base.

With this unexplored feature, as spotted by Nima Owji, Twitter consumers will now have the ability to download videotapes directly from the platform onto their device, whether it be a smartphone, tablet, or computer. This is a significant step forward, as it authorizes users to effortlessly save and share videos without the need for third-party apps or complicated workarounds. It also flares up further possibilities for content innovators, reporters, and investigators who can now effortlessly access and repurpose videos for their objectives.

The addition of a download video element on Twitter brings several advantages for consumers. Firstly, it provides a convenient way to save videos for offline viewing. Whether it's a funny cat video or an inspiring speech, users can now reserve their favorite content and enjoy it later, even when they are not connected to the internet. This is particularly valuable for those with restricted data plans or in places with poor network range.

Secondly, the download video option allows consumers to share videos across different venues and gadgets effortlessly. Previously, consumers had to rely on clunky methods like screen recording or relying on third-party applications to conserve and communicate videos. Now, with just a few taps, users can download a video and share it via messaging applications, email, or even upload it to other SM platforms. This streamlined approach encourages more sharing and engagement, ultimately benefiting both individual users and Twitter as a whole.

Furthermore, this element enhances accessibility for individuals with disabilities. Many visually impaired consumers totally rely on screen readers or other assistive technologies to navigate social media outlets. With the ability to download videos, these consumers can now save the content and use their preferred assistive instruments to enjoy them at their own pace. It promotes inclusivity and ensures that everyone can fully participate in the Twitter community.

From a content originator's standpoint, the download video option spreads up further avenues for engagement and disclosure. It permits creators to repurpose their videos on different SM platforms, reaching a wider audience and potentially increasing their following. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for collaborations and partnerships, as innovators can smoothly share their content with other influencers, reporters, or media venues.

While the introduction of the download video option is undoubtedly a welcome addition to Twitter, it also raises concerns about copyright infringement and unauthorized usage of videos. Twitter will need to implement measures to protect intellectual effects rights and ensure that consumers respect copyright laws. Implementing features such as watermarks or constraints on video usage might be essential to strike a balance between amenities and safeguarding originators' rights.

Twitter's decision to finally count on a download video option is a significant development that brings convenience, accessibility, uniqueness, and refreshed prospects to its consumers. With the ability to save and share videotapes effortlessly, users can now enjoy their favorite content offline, skillfully share it with others, and repurpose it for various objectives. Content developers also stand to satisfy with increased divulgence and affiliation opportunities. However, it will be essential for Twitter to address concerns surrounding copyright protection to maintain a fair and respectful environment for all consumers.

Dozens Of Leading EU Firms Push Back On New AI Legislation

A new EU legislation related to the world of AI is up and running but it’s not quite getting the response that many had hoped for.

So many business leaders in the region have opted to take a step back and have even sent out warnings that such laws could end up causing more harm than good in terms of limiting competition and reducing growth and investments.

To mark the news further, a letter was sent out by lawmakers in this area on Friday where they spoke about firms such as Airbus, Carrefour, and even Siemens putting out major concerns regarding this new AI Act. And for those who might not be aware, it’s deemed to be one of the most comprehensive rules out there today.

Other leading names were seen arguing about how such rules are designed to serve as roadblocks more than anything else. And it’s better to protest now than show regrets later.

Another assessment of the case revealed how such legislation is jeopardizing the region’s technical rights and making it less competent to tackle major challenges that are about to come it's way.

Many people argue that the rules end up going too far and while the goal seems to be regulating the world of AI, such models are literally going way ahead than they should in this manner.

It’s not exactly shocking to hear this news because ever since the world of generative AI has come into existence, people have been expressing major concerns about the ordeal. They’ve been speaking about how technology is soon going to make humans extinct while top experts even stated how pausing the development and training of AI further should come to a pause or else it would provide major risks that go as far as starting new nuclear wars and perhaps another pandemic.

The new EU regulations are pushing forward for major change and preventing innovation from taking place across Europe as they would cause a huge rise in compliance expenses with major liability risks too.

As a result, it could give rise to a major gap in terms of productivity between both sides of the world.

Today, executives want people to know that policymakers need to make amendments to the bill before it’s too late. And that is something that ended up being agreed upon among different states of the European Union.

Senators Want Meta To Explain Why Instagram Is Failing To Prevent The Circulation Of Child Abuse Material

Senators are demanding that tech giant Meta should provide an explanation as to why the company’s leading Instagram app is failing to stop the circulation of child abuse material.

The Senators mentioned that such content is serving as prime targets for pedophiles on the app. And therefore, that’s why lawmakers are now demanding answers from the company.

They further elaborated upon how the app’s algorithms brought so many users together based on such disturbing content and now they wish to know how exactly something of this nature was able to occur at this pace without any action being taken.

A letter was launched by them which was signed by 10 senators including a meeting chaired by Dick Durbin. They revealed how they were so gravely concerned about the app’s behavior and how it failed to do so much despite knowing this.

They also boldly delineated how this behavior was not due to them not realizing the truth but in fact it was due to their own negligence and lack of support and motivation to bring about change.

The Senators are worried and shocked to see how Meta failed to look at Instagram’s wrong actions as a top priority and instead was more focused on earning more funds. They even stated how the app directly assists and boosts the black market in this regard and that was not acceptable by any means.

Now, the group wants answers as to why the platform failed to detect the content dubbed explicit in nature and what else it was doing to prevent such happenings from taking place. They similarly wish to know more in terms of which task force Meta has started to help overcome such issues because, by the looks of it, there is not a lot being done in this respect.

The date outlined has been July 12th and now a copy of the letter is being issued to media outlets.

So far, Meta is yet to provide any answer on the subject and how its own app is sharing such content that pedophiles are taking advantage of.

But this is not the first time that we’re hearing more about how the company’s algorithms are being questioned. Reports continue to suggest how pedophiles continue to purchase and sell content of this nature on the platform. But Meta has mentioned time and time again that it hopes to solve such issues soon but when is the question.

AI Based Tools Might Increase Global GDP By $1.5 Trillion

The rise of AI has created multiple ripple effects that are still playing out and can therefore be difficult to predict the impacts of. In spite of the fact that this is the case, GitHub recently released a new study that shed some light on the GDP impact of AI based tools such as their very own GitHub Copilot.

Based on the facts and figures that GitHub has presented in this announcement, it appears that the global GDP could increase by as much as $1.5 trillion. Just for reference, the global GDP as of 2023 happens to be around $105 trillion, which means that AI tools alone will create a 1% increase in this number with all things having been considered and taken into account.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this increase is expected to happen in a relatively short timeframe as well. GitHub estimates that this $1.5 trillion increase in global GDP will occur by as early as 2030, and it will be largely due to a predicted 30% boost in worker productivity that AI based tools have the potential to create.

In a way, AI will be incorporating an additional 15 million coders into the industry by 2030, since it will be adding 30% to the productivity of the 45 million developers that are expected to be working by the end of the decade. GitHub Copilot in particular is helping developers get over imposter syndrome because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up stopping them in their tracks.

46% of the code that GitHub Copilot was used on ended up getting completed, and this can help developers to get more work done faster than might have been the case otherwise. This lends credence to the notion that AI will be an absolute changer, though it will be interesting to see what its full impact looks like by the end of the decade. The impact might also become more pronounced in subsequent decades that will come to pass.
