Hunger and malnourishment are one of the biggest world problems and many people around the world from underdeveloped countries are suffering from them. According to the reports of the UN Food and Agricultural Organization, more than 3 Billion people around the world could not afford a healthy diet in 2020, which was more than 112 Million in the 2019 stats. This increase in numbers was due to several factors but what stands out is the rising food prices when the average price of healthy food is 3.3% more than that of 2019's.
According to FOA, a healthy diet meets all the dietary and energy needs of a person. But in 52 countries of the world, the maximum population isn't able to afford a healthy diet. Most of these countries are from Africa, followed by Asia, Oceania, and the Americas. But as Asia is the biggest continent, around 1.89 billion people aren't able to afford a healthy diet and 973 million from it are only from India.
In Africa, more than 90% of the population cannot get healthy food. Sub-Saharan Africa is affected the most by it because droughts occur there frequently. The Russian invasion of Ukraine has also made things worse for Africa because they got about 50% of their wheat from these two countries. Now the children born in African countries are malnourished and most of the people die from hunger.
It is going around that in November 2022, the world population will surpass 8 billion people and even the developing countries are worried about food shortages. By 2050, the population will increase up to 35%, and to meet the food needs of the people, crop production will also increase. But the production should be environment friendly because the material used in crops is the worst cause of greenhouse gas emissions and we do not want it in a world full of other problems. Now everyone has to work hard to sustain as much food as possible because the coming days aren't looking that good.

VPN Usage Skyrockets Due to Increase in Global Geopolitical Upheaval
The death of Mahsa Amini sparked widespread protests against the authoritarian Iranian government, and that lead to the government blocking internet access because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making it harder for protesters to get organized. This is a common trope among dictatorial regimes, but in spite of the fact that this is the case people can get around these internet blockages by using a Virtual Private Network service that might allow them to bypass local firewalls.
That makes it unsurprising that VPN downloads in Iran grew by a massive 3,000% in the month of September alone, but with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that Iran is not the leader in terms of VPN download surges. Sri Lanka has been undergoing a period of political and social upheaval as well, and that has resulted in an incredible 17,000% increase in VPN downloads back in April of 2022, as reported by Top10VPN.
The country was going through a lot of turmoil in that month due to economic mismanagement that lead to a collapse of the local currency with all things having been considered and taken into account. The government once again restricted access to a wide range of internet services including social media and messaging apps, and people were forced to turn to VPNs so that they could stay well informed.
Other countries that are in states of conflict such as Russia and Ukraine have been seeing massive upticks in VPN downloads as well. Russian users increased VPN downloads by 2,600% over the course of their country’s invasion of Ukraine, and in Ukraine this increase was about 600%.
Armenia and Azerbaijan are also embroiled in their own disputes and are at the center of much geopolitical intrigue. That has resulted in an 84% increase in VPN downloads in Armenia and a much higher 751% in Azerbaijan. VPN usage is up across the world, and that trend is likely to continue if governments keep trying to stifle dissenting voices and restrict internet access for their citizens.

Meta’s Off-Platform Newsletter Called Bulletin Is Gearing Up For A Shutdown
Meta is closing down its famous off-platform newsletter called Bulletin, the company announced today.
This was a product that was launched last year during the summertime. For those who may not be aware, it was made available to a number of writers on an invitation-only basis, Therefore, this Bulletin enabled readers to carry out a subscription from leading newsletters where notable contributors such as Malcolm Gladwell and Malala Yousafzai were seen.
And yes, there were definitely some forms of content that were free of cost but there was always a feature that allowed writers to carry out subscriptions on their newsletters, very much like the famous app called Substack.
Bulletin has worked hard in allowing us to learn about this relationship seen among creators with their audience members. This way, they could be better supported and would work toward building the community across apps such as Facebook. We know this thanks to a spokesperson who mentioned the details on TechCrunch.
Meta told its viewers that its platform may be ending but they are awfully committed to providing support to all of the creators and their success seen through the platform.
Writers on the Bulletin app will still be earning revenue through subscriptions till the app decides to completely perform a shutdown in 2023. In the same way, we’ll be seeing writers get access to the email IDs of all subscribers, and that way, they’ll be alert, in case they opt to transfer the newsletter to more websites.
Last week, we saw the company’s CEO go public with his plans to stop all forms of hiring, reduce costs, and also conduct restructure of a few groups that are located in the firm. But today, the firm confirms it really needs to refocus all of its resources to places that aren’t necessary such as Bulletin, and allocate them to places that are more important like the app’s discovery algorithm.
This is undoubtedly a key feature of interest to all firms that are attempting to stay in line with the competition offered by archrivals like TikTok. During the start of summer, we saw the firm shift both its engineering and also some product support to other features like Facebook News and this platform so it could allocate resources to the firm’s creator economy.
At the moment, the firm’s biggest bet financially is related to the metaverse. However, it’s also very keen on beating out archrivals. This is why we’ve seen Meta follow in the footsteps of others like TikTok, converting its apps’ feeds in a manner that’s very similar to Tiktok’s work.
Therefore, so many users have taken a step back to express their concern on the matter. Not only is the algorithm similar but Instagram even went as far as offering posts of those that users’ weren’t even following. They just felt it was suggested content.
However, despite such news, Meta says it’s continuing with its plans to discover algorithms.

Are Apple and Google Really Responsible for the Decline of Firefox?
Mozilla recently put out an explosive report that highlighted the role that major tech companies like Apple and Google played in the decline in demand for its flagship browser Firefox. They discussed how companies used exclusionary practices and anti competitive tactics to artificially boost their own browsers, but in spite of the fact that this is the case many are criticizing the notion that Firefox declined due to malicious intent from larger market players.
Much of the emphasis that Mozilla placed in this report was on built in browsers because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making users less likely to download other browsers. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this idea does not really hold water when held to scrutiny.
Chrome is the most popular browser by far, followed by Microsoft Edge, but Firefox still comes in third place. If you were to look at browsers downloaded from the app store, Google still manages to receive a lot of support with all things having been considered and taken into account. Microsoft Edge was downloaded about 6.5 million times, but that is not all that much higher than the 4.8 million downloads that Firefox received.
This pokes some holes in Mozilla’s assertion and makes the role of Google and Apple seem less pronounced than might have been the case otherwise. Google does not hold any sway on the Apple App Store, but they still managed to get a whopping 63 million downloads for their web browser app.
The data does not seem to be supporting Mozilla’s claims. Their web browser received millions of downloads from third parties, and that suggests that the decline of their product is the fault of no one apart from the company itself. Apple and Google definitely used their sway to snap up consumers who might have been interested in Firefox, but that doesn’t change the fact that users are always looking for custom browsers and they might not see much value in Firefox anymore.

YouTube Tests New Method To Improve The Accuracy Of Automated Captions
YouTube is on a mission to upgrade its automated captions feature. And now, they’ve even rolled out a new test that involves allowing users to recommend their own updates with revisions linked to the captions on display.
The company spoke about the new test designed to better the accuracy of such captions. In this way, it would enable users to put up recommendations in the form of suggested edits.
For now, this is limited to those watching content on the app via desktop. Hence, if they wish to suggest an edit, they can simply open up their transcript and select the icon for pencil. This will enable them to add various suggestions, right before pressing the symbol for the ‘check mark’ that signals it's done.
All viewers can put out edits for errors they feel can pop up in the option for automated translation. The updates can then be submitted by simply clicking on the check seen in the box for edits. Moreover, the final icon is going to be the ‘re-play segment’. This just makes it so much easier to hear the same section again to make sure what is being said.
Any particular edit made is sent through to the app but it will not be seen by the creator. Moreover, any edits that are suggested will surface to the same individual that made the edit on the specific transcript. So if you think it's going to be visible to any broader audience, think again.
As of now, the app is calling this out as a huge experiment that is being used to have data collected based on the suggestion received. This way, YouTube can think more about how it can utilize such an experiment for data collection as suggestions come its way. Similarly, it can better improve the feature for automated captions including other features like spam and abuse.
For now, it’s all editing of the ‘crowd-source’ kind. And it’s quite similar to what we’ve seen being tested by TikTok and Twitter.
The whole point is to gather as much feedback as possible from the app’s users and then use that to create an enhanced loop for assessment. Using the right wisdom from the crowd, it’s sure to enhance every process.
We do feel it’s a great idea and may work because the more eyes there are on an issue, the better it can become. There is a greater likelihood of outlining some common words that affect the system and make it trip. Hence, YouTube will now be able to see more errors that it may have skipped out on in the past. Creators will also now benefit from staying more alert in case an issue arises.
And in cases where it’s not misused, we may end up getting directed to new places that put creators on alert. Yes, the risks are plenty but if YouTube normalizes it, and provides great feedback, we may see an expansion soon.
For now, the test is getting rolled out on a small percentage of videos through the desktop application. Therefore, the chances of running into it are less.

Less Screen Time Is Important For A Child’s Healthy Development, Confirms New Study
You may have heard about how increased screen time can have adverse effects on young minds. And now, we’ve got a new study that’s proving just that.
Keeping children as young as toddlers away from iPads would motivate them to move around and get some fresh air. And in the long run, that’s designed to assist their minds.
Moreover, this new study says it’s essential in terms of developing a child’s executive functions such as their attention span, a shift that arises between tasks, and the ability to make the best decisions.
In the same way, this particular study proved that kids at the age of two that spent less than 60 minutes on electronic gadgets and preferred exercise over anything else had the best cognitive skills.
The study comes to us thanks to research experts at the University of Illinois Urbana.
Executive function underlies the ability to take part in behaviors that are goal-directed. From inhibitory control that enables you to regulate thoughts to those linked to working memory, feelings, and behavior, the list is plenty.
These emotions are also related to holding data in the mind for a while to complete a task. Other than that, the research says it can affect cognitive flexibility and adeptness to switch attention from one task to another.
It’s interesting to note how such findings are linked to both diet and exercise recommendations from the American Academy for Pediatrics. Moreover, such guidelines are instructed to keep kids away from electronic devices and only allow for screen times of less than an hour.
Other than that, it promotes exercise and includes around 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. They are then told to avoid sugary drinks as much as possible. According to research, children that stuck to such guidelines of the AAP (the American Academy of Pediatrics) displayed better executive functions in young kids. The research experts were trying to figure out when such a relationship starts and at which point in time during a toddler’s age it begins.
In this particular study, around 356 toddlers took part and they happened to be included in a group called ‘strong kids 2.’ And that, in particular, searched for the factors affecting the child’s diet and their weight from 0 to 5 years of age. This includes when the kids were around two.
Parents were seen filling out a survey regarding their child’s behavior and the average time they take to stare at a screen. This includes how active they are and the types of food they’re consuming. In the same way, it’s related to how many sweetened drinks they consume.
We also saw the survey asking a range of questions in terms of their toddlers’ development and behavior. Some of the queries were related to the child’s planning process, their memory, their attention span, and their responses recorded emotionally.
There was an inverse relationship seen between the various executive functions discussed above and the number of hours spent viewing screens.
Those with less than an hour of screen time had better development and could control their cognition better than any of those that spent days staring at cellphones and the television. One graduate from the University of Illinois noticed how they had better inhibitory control and greater memory.
Those toddlers with daily forms of physical exercise were seen doing better on their tests that needed great memory when compared to those that didn’t. So as you can see, the authors concluded how healthy behavior in the form of less screen time and more exercise can really be great for children.

Kim Kardashian was barred from endorsing cryptocurrency
Many influencers and celebrities are endorsing cryptocurrency on their social networking channels. The rationale is they get a huge amount as a return package for advertising and uploading it to their accounts. Yet lately, the federal security laws came to know that some celebs are violating terms and not revealing the relationship of marketing the products.
One of the personalities who hasn't discussed their relationship with the crypto firm on why they're promoting the product happens to be Kim Kardashian. She endorsed Emax tokens on her social media and obtained thousands of dollars in reimbursement. However, it came to an end when federal security laws discovered about her breaking the anti-touting provision.
Moreover, EthereumMax paid $250,000 to Kim Kardashian for publicizing the cryptocurrency on her Instagram. She posted stories, shared insight for future stockholders, and provided the link in her stories for more insights and information regarding Emax tokens.
As a direct consequence, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) charged Kardashian for ballyhooing the cryptocurrency on her Instagram account without following the proper guidelines. She also paid a fine of around 1.26 million dollars, which enclosed the money from paid promotions and prejudgment interest, making it just about 260,000 dollars due to disgorgement and a 1,000,000 dollar drawback, in addition to compensating for the crypto's illegal endorsement.
In a recent report submitted by the laws (SEC), it is provided that Kardashian is the only personality who had to pay a fine for commercial advertisement without any disclosure. As part of the reimbursement in 2020, the SEC also demanded that Steven Seagal pay substantial charges. In a case very similar to Ms. Kardashian, he had to pay $300,000, and the authorities restricted him from advertising cryptocurrencies for 3 years.
Several celebrities have frequently promoted Cryptocurrencies at the cost of their reputation to spread the word. They use a different strategy to spread growing crypto investments according to the rules and regulations. Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Matt Damon, and Tom Brady are some other well-known personalities who have utilized the medium of television to spread gusto among investors through clever advertisements.
Gary Gensler, Chair of the SEC, insisted on the matter by warning celebrities and influencers to be more cautious when promoting cryptocurrency assets. This case serves as a caution to all individuals to see that they are not illegally going against the law by not disclosing their relationship to the general public. They are expected to be more forthcoming about their investments and the compensation they receive for promotions.
The SEC's Director of Enforcement, Gurbir S. Grewal, stated that those promoting the asset must disclose the nature of their investment. It will earn the trust of additional shareholders, and they have every right to be aware of whether or not the publicity is impartial.
