Cyber hackers are attacking more companies than ever before

The U.S.-based software firm Netwrix has recently released its yearly report on hybrid security trends. Based on the report, it can be seen that almost 2/3 of the firms, which account for 68 percent, have been hit with a cyber attack in the past 12 months.

The report was based on data collected from almost 1,610 information technology experts belonging to 106 different countries. The responses were later compiled in the report. Along with the increasing number of targeted companies, the report also revealed that sixteen percent of the targets calculated their financial losses to be over fifty thousand dollars. In addition to this, 2 in 5 companies were forced to cover unwanted expenses, whereas almost 10 percent faced other problems as well, including declining progress, high competition, or not being able to do well in sales.

In response to the increasing cyber attacks, many companies have started to contact insurance companies. The research company has warned people that they need to take more steps in order to secure protection from such threats. While 44 percent of the companies are already insured, 15 percent are considering getting insured by next year. Almost 22 percent of the insured companies were asked by their respective insurance firms to update their cybersecurity status so they could continue with the firm.

According to Dirk Schrader, Vice President of the research company, insurance companies can help cover the financial losses incurred due to successful cyber attacks, but at the same time, they are not a permanent solution to the issue as the data that has been lost or the company’s reputation cannot be brought back.

Hackers are focusing more on attacking systems that are physically located within a company rather than going against cloud-based systems. This is true for ransomware attacks, where there are almost twice as many malicious files available on physically present systems as compared to the cloud.

This is because it is easy to target these systems because the malware can be spread quickly. Since cloud-based systems have more limited privileges and rights, it makes them more secure, and hence attackers prefer going after targets that are easy to attack.

Fake public Wi-Fi networks are found to be more common than juice jacking

The term “juice jacking” gained widespread attention after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently issued a warning to refrain the public from using charging facilities available in public areas, including shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, and even airports, as they can be used to install malicious files via charging cables.

Although juice jacking can pose a significant risk to any device, security professionals are now calling attention to an even more frequent but less severe threat arising from fraudulent public WI-FI networks.

With proper planning, such threats can be easily avoided. People are advised to use their personal mobile phone charging accessories or carry power banks with them while travelling. Although juice jacking is considered to possess potentially severe consequences, including data breach or tracking the victim, Candid Wuest, Vice President of Acronis, a Switzerland-based software house, believes fraudulent Wi-Fi networks are even more dangerous.

According to Candid, juice jacking despite resulting in more severe security breaches for smart devices, the probability of such attacks occurring is relatively lower than coming across phoney Wi-Fi networks. Although such attacks are feasible, they are not easy to execute. Malicious Wi-Fi points are widespread and can display login information for unencrypted services. Similarly, it becomes easy for threat actors to track victims’ browsing activities.

Candid did raise a valid point that it is convenient to shift onto a public Wi-Fi service to have speedy downloading. Just like juice jacking, such malicious Wi-Fi service assaults can also be easily countered. However, it needs some degree of mindfulness to reach this stage.

With such attacks becoming more frequent and dangerous, it is important to take precautionary measures whenever possible. Just like cyber attacks and scams, threats associated with juice jacking and malicious Wi-Fi networks are becoming more common. This is why, in order to spread awareness, the FBI issued a warning so people who use such facilities should understand the potential risk they are putting themselves at and how it can be avoided in order to protect their personal data from getting into the wrong hands.

TikTok's Darker Phase: Exploring Its Effect on Psychological Health

TikTok has been one of the most famous internet sites in the globe, with millions of consumers sharing shorter content on a wide range of topics. While the platform has been praised for its ability to provide a creative outlet and a sense of community for its users, it has also been pointed out for its potential adverse effects on mental wellness.

A current analysis found that spending time on this platform can lead to increased feelings of mental ailments. It found that those who spent more time on the platform were more likely to experience these adverse emotions.

One of the key reasons for this can be the "social comparison" that takes place on the social network. Consumers are constantly exposed to content from other people, some of whom may have more followers or appear to have a more glamorous lifestyle. This can lead to feelings of inadequacy and a sense of not measuring up.

In addition, the study discovered that the algorithm-driven nature of the platform can contribute to a sense of isolation. The platform's algorithm is created to show individuals material that is similar towhat they have engaged with in the past. While this can create a sense of community and shared interests, it can also create a filter bubble that reinforces narrow views and limits exposure to diverse perspectives.

TikTok has also been targeted for its potential to promote negative body image and unrealistic beauty standards. The platform is home to countless types of videos, as well as filters that can alter consumers' appearances to conform to societal beauty norms. This can make an unhealthy obsession with appearance and a sense of inadequacy for those who do not fit these standards.

However, it's not all doom & gloom when it comes to this platform's effect on mental well-being. It has also been praised for its potential to provide a sense of community and support for those struggling with these issues. Many people have used the platform to share their own experiences and offer support and encouragement to others going through similar struggles.

Ultimately, the effect of TikTok on psychological wellness is complex and multifaceted. While the platform has the potential to provide a sense of community and creativity, it can also contribute to feelings of loneliness, inadequacy, and negative body image. As with any internet platform, it's important for people to be aware of these potential adverse impacts and to take steps to protect their self-health while using the app.

Twitter Blue In Chaos Again As App Restores Blue Ticks For Many High-Profile Accounts Including Dead Celebs After Removing Them

Another day spells another moment of chaos for Twitter and this time around, it’s a new and bizarre happening linked to the Blue Subscription.

We finally saw all Twitter accounts that failed to pay including top names from the industry, have their blue ticks removed. But little did anyone know that it would just be a temporary change.

A day after the dramatic unfolding arose, we saw account holders with huge followings have the tick reinstated for free. And now people can’t help but wonder if the app is trolling them or if Elon Musk can’t seem to get his priorities straight.

Top personalities including media journalists, singers, sportsmen, actors, models, and more took to the app to share screenshots of how it magically reappeared. And they’re glad they’re not being impersonated because it’s just a wild endeavor.

Ironically, most celebs had bid the tick farewell and they appeared to be least bothered in paying for the account including Priyanka Chopra and Malala. And seeing it appear back turned into a joke for some.

As you can imagine, the news turned into a meme for Musk and his app which seems to be having plenty of difficulties in terms of realizing what is the right call.

Memes that made it big included people dubbing Musk’s program as corrupted on a deep level. And we can’t help but agree because the intense decision of doing so appears to have backfired.

Musk had mentioned in a recent interview that the verification of the old ticks from the previous administration was just a ridiculous idea. He even went as far as stating that it was related to the Lords and Peasants system.

It’s also shocking that Musk is paying for some celebs so they stay on the app. This includes the likes of William Shatner, Stephen King, and LeBron James. This trio had severely criticized Musk and mentioned how they refused to pay.

Another spoke about how Musk’s rocket exploded but it was not the worst part of his day as there was more humiliation in store for him. Clearly, people were not going to forgive this endeavor for a long time.

Others were asking friends to think of a list of memes to put up against Elon Musk because that’s how frustrated they were after the billionaire’s decision of doing all of this.

But some did take it positively and felt like Musk wanted to cheer them up after the devastating news so he enabled verification of ticks again.

The drama got even more interesting when people who complained to Elon Musk about Twitter Blue and its unpredictability factor started to get the verification for free. Clearly, the tech billionaire is trolling people across the board.

This included all of those who complained to others and were very vocal about blocking others that were paying for verification now.

Musk shared an image of a crying baby with a blue tick on one leading journalist’s post from The New York Times. He said that his tick appeared again without him even asking for it.

He even went about sharing hashtags with the statement, ‘troll, me?’ when people felt that this was another joke and their verification may soon be stripped away.

The chaos got more interesting when reports began coming in about Twitter adding Blue Ticks to account holders belonging to dead celebs. It made them appear as if they were paid Blue Subscribers.

From Michael Jackson to late NBA superstar Kobe Bryant- it was just a bizarre endeavor altogether. How’s that for a bizarre reveal?

State of Upskilling Report indicates improving skills might benefit tech companies

There is no doubt in saying that the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021 have been the worst for the whole globe. These years were like a nightmare and the primary cause of everyone's life going downhill, where people were helpless and losing their jobs, suffering from extreme poverty and had to watch as inflation increased day by day. Even yet, its effects may still be felt in everyone's life, such as economic uncertainty, particularly for individuals in the technology industry.

According to Pluralsight's "2023 State of Up-skilling Report," economic instability is the major reason why many companies are laying off workers and putting more of a focus on skill upgrades. This study examined 1,200 computer professionals from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Australia and was questioned on what are their opinions on whether up-skilling is a great option for businesses or not?

Nearly all of those questioned (97%) stated that they are with the idea of corporations reducing their staff and investing in employee skill development. If we approach this with a positive outlook, it will seem quite advantageous for these digital behemoths since it will encourage their staff to take on multiple responsibilities. It was even noted that 72% of people are totally prepared to make this a reality.

Furthermore, this study encourages 65 tech savvy individuals to look for cost-saving opportunities that might have a significant influence on economic volatility and result in a better and healthier environment for digital enterprises. Additionally, 52% of respondents think that adopting many abilities and skills might help many businesses succeed as well as benefit all of us.

However, although some see this as a good quality, others (47%) are not very taken with the concept. They stated that the reason for this was because they would have to handle excessive duties in addition to their main work.

One of the key conclusions drawn from this survey was that, among the numerous obstacles standing in the way of individuals learning new skills, lack of money and time rank at the top. The poll found that lack of finances (25%) and a lack of opportunities to improve one's abilities (30%) are other factors contributing to people's discouragement.

When compared the previous year’s report to this year’s report, it was a little upsetting to find that people appeared to feel less confident in 2023 than they did in 2022. 8% of data technicians are dissatisfied with their abilities, while 21% and 17%, respectively, of cyber security technologists and cloud techies appear to have less self-assurance as well.

Senior citizens have been proven to have trouble distinguishing between human speech and AI voice, research

We all are aware that artificial intelligence (AI) has evolved so much in previous years. For us as humans, they have proven quite beneficial in many ways. Some our household duties can be completed by AI automations, which simplifies our life. Several models are there in front of us making sure that we live a productive life. There are numerous positive effects if we consider how technology has changed the world, like the replacement of surgeons and self-driving vehicles, among other things. However, the effect could also be detrimental.

According to Baycrest Hospital of Toronto, they held a research to determine the drawbacks of artificial intelligence, with the major one being AI speech, as the study’s main finding.

Björn Herrmann, the study's author, stated that several observations were made in the research when groups of people were separated into two age ranges: those between 30 and 60 and those above 60. Then, a total of 10 human and 10 artificial intelligence (AI) audios were played. The groups were tasked with differentiating the voices. Surprisingly, it was shown that younger individuals did not have as much difficulty distinguishing between these sounds as older individuals did.

However, you must be wondering, why is that, though? The study author, Herrmann, revealed all of it in a media release. Adults' inability to distinguish between the two was primarily caused by the fact that older individuals have a tendency to concentrate more on the words in a sentence than on the rhythm or the way of speaking.

While it may be seen as a straightforward warning of any scams or frauds we should be wary of, we could take it in a positive way too. These Artificial Intelligence talks might be employed as solace for adults with various brain diseases; it could assist them and provide them company while they are stressed out because they could rarely gauge these sounds.
