A world without passwords sounds so enticing to some and while it might be a far-fetched reality for others, Apple plans on changing that notion soon.
The successful iPhone maker is outlining its plans for the future and that involves bidding farewell to passwords forever.
The company was recently seen sharing some more in-depth details on how it plans to remove the concept of passwords from each of our daily routines, thanks to the introduction of its innovative Passkeys tool.
In case you may have missed it, the firm highlighted the Passkeys concept at this year’s WWDC in June, where many left wanting more information as that’s how enticing the whole concept was.
Many wished to know how it works and whether or not the firm had plans to introduce it soon or not. And it now appears the time has come for Apple to share just that.
Apple has reportedly joined hands with leading tech firms Google and Microsoft to bring forward a collaborative effort that can eliminate passwords as a whole from different accounts across the internet. And in case you’re wondering why, well, it’s actually to further enhance user security and not the opposite.
Each company will reportedly launch its own version of the model so we really need to keep an eye out for the venture in the next few months. But as far as Apple’s Passkeys are concerned, well, it’s getting launched in the fall of this year, alongside its other major projects. This includes the much-anticipated iOS 16 and the renowned macOS Ventura.
So, how exactly can one make use of the Passkeys from Apple? Well, it’s all linked to the world of cryptography and its associated public keys. Here, users’ devices will be seen storing security keys in a private manner.
And instead of the usual key sharing to enter into your device, users would now have to prove the correct key if they wish to log in. At the same time, they’ll be required to make something like an exclusive signature to further authorize their entry into the device.
It’s true that the key would be stored on Apple devices but that certainly does not mean you can’t use hardware other than Apple.
A recent post by the company proved how the password manager related to Apple’s Keychain could be seen syncing across different user devices as per their choice. Therefore, those who’d like to use various other devices can simply do so by scanning QR codes using their Apple smartphone.
Remember, gone are the days of worrying about your remembering your passwords and worrying about phishing attacks or malicious scams. Yes, the threat still looms but it’s definitely to a less extent.
And in case you wish to share the passkey with those that mean most, well, Apple is even allowing that happen to happen via its AirDrop. Therefore, if you happen to be sharing a joint account, well, you’re definitely not going to suffer if your credentials happen to be similar.
It appears the new technology will be browser-based but more speculations about developers linking them into apps are also on the rise. Hence, we’ll just need to wait and watch like the rest of the world to see what’s in store.
Apple says that passwords have been a mainstay for security in technology for years but the time has come to step it up, thanks to the growing attacks and security risks that so many of us face today.
Apple confirmed that this is no longer a future dream. Instead, a password-less world will soon become a reality.

Can Microsoft Edge Overtake Google Chrome As The World's Top Browser On Desktop? New Stats Show Edge Performing At Its Best
A new report by Statcounter has been published about the current trends of the desktop market and the leading browsers involved. And we’d like to inform you that the competition is intriguing as Microsoft Edge is seen experiencing accelerated growth.
This means we could see a possible disruption of Chrome’s reign as the world’s most popular browser in the future. And although nothing is final yet and stats continue to fluctuate as we speak, the attempt can’t go unnoticed.
The report for July 2022 definitely seems promising when compared to that from last month.
In June, Edge acquired a market share of 10.64 and now in July its gained 10.86% share. Clearly, the growth is there and it’s being applauded.
On the other hand. Google Chrome is at the top as always with its dominance, standing at a mighty 66.2% market share. And although it did experience a decline this month of just 0.7 points, the lead is evident.
In the third position, we saw Safari come in with a bang as the world’s most popular browser for desktops but its market share remained unchanged from last month. Hence, it continues to stand at a market share of 8.9%, while in the fourth position, we’ve got Mozilla Firefox at 8.08%.
While Microsoft did manage to destroy Internet Explorer 11, many people have trouble digesting such facts and hence are sticking to Google Chrome which hails as the king of browsers in today’s modern desktop market.
In case you didn’t know, the actual king of the past was definitely Internet Explorer for browsers as we didn’t have options back then. Interestingly, some still continue to use it today, as shocking as that may sound.
Opera took the final position on the list with a 3% market share as reported by Statcounter for this month.

Next Generation Post-Quantum Encryption May Not Be As Secure As Many Tech Experts Had Hoped
The world of quantum computing had a lot of hopes attached to a new and upcoming venture linked to post-quantum encryption.
However, tech analysts are going to be disappointed to learn that their fears of things not going according to plan is turning into a reality.
Many tech analysts and researchers predicted that it could really serve as a competitive candidate in the world of quantum computing encryption but that’s now turned into a deeply worrisome matter.
The main algorithm that we’re referring to here is the SIKE which somehow did manage to surpass the US encryption competition by NIST for different algorithms but fell short elsewhere in the quantum computing universe afterward.
Still, researchers needed 60 minutes to defeat it and carry out malicious actions like the theft of different encryption keys. And all that they required was a single personal computer with the advancements of the math world.
SIKE showed promising results when the analysis was conducted by the government, CSIS researchers present at the KU Leven required the same time to grab a hold of the respective encryption keys.
Those trying to enter didn’t find flaws inside the code but actually went on attacking the mathematical aspect of things that is the main part of the algorithm which is SIDH.
This particular algorithm in question was said to be defeated by the famously dubbed ‘glue and split’ theory. These sorts of attacks use two curve genus to invade one attack curve.
Whether we like it or not, it’s a major flaw and weakness that researchers can’t look past, even if they wanted to, not to mention the huge blow it serves to SIKE.
The outcome of the research was recently published in a paper called the ‘key SIDH recovery attack’. Microsoft applauded the great efforts and even rewarded the researchers of the study with $50,000.
SIKE was considered to be one of the four top algorithms that had the capability to take over those in place at the moment like RSA and a few more. But despite all the uproar of its great strength, it was cracked into easily and you can only imagine the result of what’s next when the world of quantum PCs booms.
For those who may not be aware, quantum PCs are much more competent than the devices we have today so they’re definitely more likely to break into the toughest algorithms linked to encryption out there today.

Growing internet restrictions badly impacts on freedom of speech of more than two billion people worldwide
Initially, when the internet got its journey to let people discover and communicate, it was free of restrictions. But depending on your place, there may be some restrictions. In this article, we'll be reporting on internet connectivity issues and looking at how to avoid those unnecessary restrictions.
The virtual private network service company, Surfshark collaborated with a watchdog organization tackling cybersecurity; NetBlocks discovered how internet shutdowns in some countries affect people. They find that cruel governments try to impose internet restrictions to suppress innocent people, take their right to freedom of speech, and manage the country's matters internally. The countries that are on top of imposing internet censorship are India, Jammu, and Kashmir, with seventy-two restrictions in the first and second quarters of 2022. Additionally, Surfshark reported that around 2 billion people would be affected by internet barriers in just a year in 2022.
The interruption of service corresponds with important societal or political happenings, for instance, state elections, protests, etc. According to Surfshark, most internet shutdowns are possible in those countries where government or state department authorities supervise the internet framework. By taking advantage of internet control, authorities impose internet shutdowns to stop specific democratic movements. Surfshark consistently highlights censorship issues and country-specific concerns. They have compiled several reports about these countries' matters and reported that every third country has been facing internet restrictions for more than the last seven years.
Internet censorship works by blocking IP addresses. The IP is the code that instructs your device to go to a place where you input a domain name.
To solve this, Surfshark and NetBlock suggest different alternatives for the people to tackle such countrywide restrictions. To counter these, among other workarounds, VPN is the best choice. By using a virtual private network, one can gain freedom easily. VPN encrypts censored websites and hides your web activity in a tunnel so no one can stop you from accessing the restricted sites in your area. A VPN can encrypt IP addresses, DNS, etc.
Both the firms consider VPN as a satisfying technique to overcome restrictions. It would be able to cater DeepPacket restrictions, DNS, etc.

Users Can Bid Farewell To Facebook’s Live Shopping Feature As Company Shifts Focus To Reels
If you happen to be an online shopping enthusiast and perhaps loved Facebook’s live shopping feature, well, there’s some bad news for you.
Facebook has recently decided to shut its doors to all live shopping endeavors including its QVC-themed Livestream. This had previously allowed so many content creators to promote and sell their goods to customers.
The change will come into immediate effect starting October 1st, as the firm says it is now planning to shift all of its focus to other more profitable projects like its Reels.
Meta recently went public with the decision and how it was going to divert all attention to short-form video content, across various apps like Instagram and Facebook. But it’s interesting to note how the firm will only be removing the live shopping feature from Facebook only.
This means shopping enthusiasts can still continue with the ordeal across Meta’s Instagram app. And in case you haven’t guessed it by now, that just goes to show how the offering wasn’t doing too well on Facebook, to begin with.
We feel the decision was definitely a sensible one, keeping in mind today’s economic uncertainty and Facebook’s declining earnings and popularity.
Users first saw the feature launch on Facebook in 2018 where those in Thailand were first treated to the offering. Here is where live shopping continued as a great chance for creators to generate revenue through Facebook.
Influencers got the chance to serve as hosts for their own shopping sessions. They began showing off a wide array of products and the response from the audience was also great.
Both creators’ own stores, as well as those linked to affiliate groups, were on offer, and in less than two years, Facebook began to expand the feature to other markets.
This was also the time we saw a tab being dedicated solely to shopping enthusiasts arrive on the app.
In case you aren't aware, live shopping is still a very popular trend in places like China but when it came down to other destinations around the globe, the response was not the same. But it’s not just Facebook that is feeling the heat.
Top social media platform TikTok has also reportedly pulled the plug on live shopping after poor response over time. This was for its users across all of Europe and America, a change that we witnessed last month.
But whether it's more related to not receiving the right response or not from audiences, one thing is for sure. Meta has made it very clear from all of its recent decision-making that it's relying on its analytics that has clearly proven that Reels rule the day.
Hence, most of the company are focusing on just that to earn better and bigger profits, which it introduced last year.
Similarly, this is why you’re seeing Facebook transform its algorithm too, making it more or less like TikTok. We’ve seen the same being done by Meta to Instagram, and while it might not be loved by all, it’s definitely happening.

Twitter’s Customer Service Questioned As A Security Firm Gets No Response From App Despite Account Being Hacked
The thought of having your account on Twitter hacked is definitely a concerning feature. And just in case you might be getting a delayed response or none at all from the app’s customer representatives, well, let’s just say you’re not the only one.
A well-known cyber security company, AV-TEST, that has been in the industry for the past 15 years is going public with its many concerns regarding Twitter. And the biggest one of them all is linked to getting its hacked Twitter account handle back.
Not only is the firm failing to provide any response to queries, but it’s also giving zero acknowledgment of what went on and why. And that’s more or less concerning for the rest of the app’s users who feel that they’ve been left out in the dark for some time now.
The CEO of AV-Test Institute is not a happy man as his firm has been struggling to get any form of help from Twitter’s team.
Above all, how can a security company with so much experience and knowledge of how to keep your accounts safe from wandering threats actually fall into a hacker’s trap?
Well, the answer is right in front of you. Anything and everything is possible in today’s time, even if you follow all the right steps.
For now, we know that the AV-Test Twitter handle is putting up plenty of spam linked to NFTs on the app, instead of actually doing what it does best, provide support for its consumers.
In case you’re wondering how the company found out about the incident, well, the co-founder and director received texts on their WhatsApp account, informing them of what was really going on. This came quite quickly, almost ten minutes post the incident.
This was accompanied by quite a few screenshots that revealed how the account was compromised, not to mention the bucketloads of alerts the firm received from a few more parties.
The first reaction was definitely shocking and the co-founders decided to log in, after which they were denied access on both their PCs and mobile devices. Next in line came Gmail, where there were several emails related to the incident, but it was incomprehensible at first as it was communicated in Russian.
One of those emails spoke of how the account’s password was altered as was the email ID. And that was followed up by a warning that if such changes weren’t made by you, then please contact Twitter at the earliest. Well, clearly, that did not work.
The biggest shocker of them all was related to how Twitter failed to inquire about the person backing up the current email ID and if they are agreeing to the changes highlighted about account change.
At first, a direct email was sent out to Twitter for help, but zero response was gained from its support team. The security firm opened up a new case regarding the matter which was titled hacked or regain access.
All respective details were provided and then came time to open up another case, and so far, that has been in vain too as zero response was provided.
As you know, each passing day is crucial when you’ve got an account this big and famous on one of the leading social networking sites in the country.
Also, the fact that Twitter always recommends you to make direct contact with its support team for help yet provides no assistance just goes to show where they stand in today’s time.
So far, it’s been seven days and no action or response was gained. Clearly, Twitter needs to amp up its game because with behavior like this for a leading company, you can only imagine how regular consumers are going to feel after reading this.

Google Comes Out On Top Of Lawsuit That Accused The Company Of Profiting From Animal Abuse
Google has managed to fight back against a lawsuit that alleged the firm of making huge profits through videos of animal abuse shown through its YouTube platform.
The lawsuit was filed by one animal rights group that failed to prove its claims adequately. In addition to that, they wanted the search engine giant to do more in terms of keeping such videos away from top streaming apps like YouTube.
Thankfully, Google's parent company Alphabet Inc. receives protection from federal law under Section 230. This is linked to acts related to Communication Decency. Therefore, the law protects all media platforms from any legal proceedings related to content that public users put up.
Hence, that’s exactly what happened in this case as was recently announced by Judge Sunil through a ruling that took place on Wednesday.
The lawsuit came from Lady Freethinker and was filed in 2021, where they even accused Google of adding ads near such videos to gain more profits from such behavior. And a few questionable videos even featured snakes attacking little dogs, leaving animal lovers horrified.
The group alleged that Google was avoiding the law by allowing such content to be published that clearly states how such types of animal cruelty need to be barred. However, the judge for the case noticed that the group only spoke about the firm violating a few local and state laws, including breaching contracts and false promotion.
Therefore, under section 230, no further action could possibly be brought and no sense of liability would be added.
Clearly, this is the end that Google had been hoping for because it has reiterated the same findings over and over again. Moreover, seeing success from any lawsuit is definitely a relief for the firm’s parent company Alphabet Inc.
