Initially, when the internet got its journey to let people discover and communicate, it was free of restrictions. But depending on your place, there may be some restrictions. In this article, we'll be reporting on internet connectivity issues and looking at how to avoid those unnecessary restrictions.
The virtual private network service company, Surfshark collaborated with a watchdog organization tackling cybersecurity; NetBlocks discovered how internet shutdowns in some countries affect people. They find that cruel governments try to impose internet restrictions to suppress innocent people, take their right to freedom of speech, and manage the country's matters internally. The countries that are on top of imposing internet censorship are India, Jammu, and Kashmir, with seventy-two restrictions in the first and second quarters of 2022. Additionally, Surfshark reported that around 2 billion people would be affected by internet barriers in just a year in 2022.
The interruption of service corresponds with important societal or political happenings, for instance, state elections, protests, etc. According to Surfshark, most internet shutdowns are possible in those countries where government or state department authorities supervise the internet framework. By taking advantage of internet control, authorities impose internet shutdowns to stop specific democratic movements. Surfshark consistently highlights censorship issues and country-specific concerns. They have compiled several reports about these countries' matters and reported that every third country has been facing internet restrictions for more than the last seven years.
Internet censorship works by blocking IP addresses. The IP is the code that instructs your device to go to a place where you input a domain name.
To solve this, Surfshark and NetBlock suggest different alternatives for the people to tackle such countrywide restrictions. To counter these, among other workarounds, VPN is the best choice. By using a virtual private network, one can gain freedom easily. VPN encrypts censored websites and hides your web activity in a tunnel so no one can stop you from accessing the restricted sites in your area. A VPN can encrypt IP addresses, DNS, etc.
Both the firms consider VPN as a satisfying technique to overcome restrictions. It would be able to cater DeepPacket restrictions, DNS, etc.
